Why grow marijuana plants in the soil?

View all questions

Cannabis, like all plants, relies on the soil and the micro-organisms in the soil to aid in nutrient transfer and protect the plant from pathogens. A true living soil, like what is found in natural dirt, is teeming with billions of micro-organisms that under the right conditions create a symbiotic relationship with the cannabis plant. That is why hydroponically-grown cannabis is more susceptible to disease and tastes different than living soil-grown cannabis. The plant in a hydro system just does not get the same amount of or quality of nutrients from the soil or its microbial friends.
